Cleaning & Prevention

A preventive program is a cooperative effort by the patient, dentist, and dental Team to preserve
the natural dentition and supporting structures by preventing the onset, progress, and recurrence
of dental diseases and conditions.

Preventing dental disease starts at home with good oral hygiene and a balanced diet. It is
continued in the dental office by the efforts of your dentist and dental hygienist to promote,
restore, and maintain your oral health.

Prevention also includes regular dental exams, cleanings, and x-rays. Sealants and fluoride are also
great preventive treatments that help protect the teeth.

Prevention helps avoid serious and costly dental problems and is the key to having a healthy,
confident, beautiful smile.

Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is a dangerous medical condition in which you can temporarily stop breathing up to several times per hour. People who snore heavily are at a higher risk of developing this condition, as are overweight individuals. You may wake yourself up with loud snores or because you are gasping for breath. Some of the negative effects of untreated sleep apnea include:

  •         Weight gain not explained by poor diet or lack of exercise
  •         Anxiety, irritability, depression, and other mood disturbances
  •         Not feeling rested when you wake up in the morning and feeling tired during daytime hours
  •         Difficulty concentrating

Sleep apnea can be especially problematic for those with certain medical conditions, including diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and a previous stroke.

Current medical treatments don’t work for everyone. For more information explore our Sleep Apnea Appliances.
